Flagstaff Police Urge Awareness of Red Light Traffic Violations

April 2, 2015 – NAZ Today discusses why the Flagstaff Police Department is keeping a sharp eye out for red light traffic violations.

Though collisions at intersections often involve lower speeds, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that motorists are more likely to be injured in crashes involving red-light violations than other types of accidents.

The attention of officers will likely be focused on the three most dangerous intersections in Flagstaff: Milton and Butler, Country Club and Highway 89, and Switzer Canyon and Route 66.

Flagstaff Police Department reminds drivers that yellow does not mean speed up, and that they should always stop behind crosswalks and stop lines.

Sgt. Margaret Bentzen, Flagstaff Police Department, says even if our light is green, we should be looking around making sure other drivers are stopped.
