The Eastern Freeway was opened in December 1977 initially from Hoddle St to Bulleen Rd, in 1982 it was extended to Doncaster Rd. In the course of the mid 90’s the extension from Doncaster Rd to Springvale Rd was made and officially opened in December 1997. In Dec 1997 I took a collection of slides on the footbridge [made in 1995] near the Springvale Rd off ramp, I will incorporate some of those slides into this video clip.
In June 2008 the Eastlink [tolled] Freeway officially opened from Springvale Rd to Frankston, considerably growing targeted visitors on the Eastern Freeway as it’s specifically linked to the Eastlink Freeway. I filmed this video clip on a Saturday afternoon nevertheless for the duration of peak hour targeted visitors can considerably clog up all 3 lanes. With Melbourne’s ever escalating population it’s very clear the new planned East-West Backlink Freeway is considerably essential to avoid bottlenecks and financial downturn owing to clogged freeways and arterial street networks.
